The goal of the Financial Aid Office is to provide a financial package to cover the difference between the student’s budget and the amount revealed by his or her official need analysis. Current students and prospective students are urged to file an application for financial aid early and follow-up on any additional information needed to make an award. The University’s Financial Aid Office, which is located on the first floor of Delany Hall, is available to assist with the application process.

Praxis: Fee Waivers
Fee waivers may be available for college students who meet all eligibility criteria. If you qualify for a fee waiver, the test fees for up to three Praxis ® Core tests, or one Praxis ® Subject Assessment may be waived. If you are requesting a fee waiver for all three Praxis Core tests, the voucher issued to you will be for the combined test code (5752).

Instructions for setting up a free UNCF Profile:

- On the right side of the log in page select “Register” and set up a free profile.
Federal Verification Process
We are pleased to announce we have established a partnership with Inceptia to expedite the federal verification process for Saint Augustines University. Verification Gateway (VG) from Inceptia is an online portal to guide students and parents through verification.
If your FAFSA application is selected for verification by the U.S Department of Education, you will receive an email from VGCS@inceptia.org, or postcard from Inceptia, containing Saint Augustines University’s unique website link to start the verification process.
We encourage you to begin the verification process within 7 days of receiving notification from Verification Gateway to ensure you receive your financial aid in time for payments. Failure to complete the verification process could result in the delay or denial of your financial aid.

FINANCIAL AID ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Saint Augustine’s University offers a variety of financial aid programs to assist students. Eligibility for all aid programs at Saint Augustine’s University, except those designed to recognize exceptional merit or performance, are based on financial need. Financial need is the cost of attendance minus the Expected Family Contribution (EFC). The University makes every effort to ensure that every qualified student will have an opportunity to attend, regardless of financial ability. The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships allows eligible students up to six academic years to complete their program of study and be eligible for financial aid.
To receive aid from the student aid programs the following requirements must be met:
- Have financial need;
- Have a high school diploma or a general education development (GED) certificate;
- Be enrolled or accepted as a regular student working toward a degree or certificate in an eligible program;
- Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen;
- Have a valid social security number;
- Sign statement of educational purpose and an overpayment/default certification; and
- Register with the Selective Service, if required.
All students who have outside scholarships, grants or loans must notify the Financial Aid Office prior to registration.
In order to receive your financial aid package, you must complete a FAFSA. The following links will direct you to videos that can assist you.
Financial Aid from federal programs is awarded on the basis of financial need except for the Direct Unsubsidized, Parent (PLUS) and Alternative Loans. The information a student reports on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is used to determine the Expected Family Contribution (EFC). The EFC is the amount that the student and parent would be expected to contribute toward the student’s educational cost. A student’s Pell eligibility is based upon the (EFC). Upon review of a student’s Student Aid Report, the Office of Financial Aid notifies students who are eligible for Pell Grant and other Federal funds. The EFC is subtracted from the cost of attendance to determine the student’s financial need as listed below:

To be considered for financial aid at Saint Augustine’s University, all students are required to:
- Be admitted to the University;
- Complete the Saint Augustine’s University Application for Financial Assistance;
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA);
- Not be in default on a FFEL, Direct Loan and Federal Perkins Loan; and
- Maintain satisfactory academic progress.
Financial Aid awards are not automatically renewable. Students must reapply for financial assistance each year. Aid is awarded on a first come first served basis. Students must have all required forms completed and on file in the Financial Aid Office by March 15 preceding the award year for priority consideration. Applications received after the priority deadline will be awarded based upon available funding.

The Office of Financial Aid at Saint Augustine’s University attempts to meet your financial need with a combination of all aid funds for which you are eligible, providing you with a financial aid package. This package must include all resources available to you from other sources, such as private scholarships, other institutional scholarships awarded from departmental funds, and from other agencies such as Vocational Rehabilitation.
The State of North Carolina has changed its method of determining residency for purposes of state financial aid. North Carolina Residency will be made by the State through its Residency Determination Service (RDS) website. You may complete the determination at that website at your convenience. You must be determined to be a resident of North Carolina via RDS before we can consider you for any financial aid from the state. What is the North Carolina Residency Determination Service (RDS)?
RDS is new to North Carolina and provides residency determinations in accordance with North Carolina residency laws and applicable federal statutes for the purposes of in-state tuition and state financial aid.
- RDS provides you a convenient and intuitive process to claim and document NC residency.
- RDS allows you to use one residency determination for admissions applications to multiple NC colleges and universities and to demonstrate residency eligibility for state grant purposes.
What proves my residency in North Carolina to make me eligible for a state grant?
To prove North Carolina residency and be eligible for a state grant; you must demonstrate through RDS that:
- You established your legal residence (domicile) in North Carolina
- You maintained that domicile for at least twelve (12) consecutive months before claiming residency on RDS
- You have a residentiary presence in the state (you have completed acts typically associated with being a resident)
- You intend to make North Carolina your permanent home indefinitely (rather than being in North Carolina solely to attend college)
What should I expect when using RDS?
For many students, the residency classification process is simple. If you were born in North Carolina and have lived in the State all your life, you will probably be one of many students who are classified as North Carolina residents. If you now live in, recently lived in, or still have strong ties to another state, RDS may require more in-depth information or documentation. Any information you provide will be validated against federal and North Carolina state agency databases.
- You must complete the RDS online interview (created to simplify your request and enhance the consistency and accuracy of residency determination).
- You must provide identification information (have your information easily available to quickly complete the RDS
- Social Security Number (SSN) for you, your parent(s) or spouse (same as the FAFSA)
- Without an SSN, RDS cannot validate your information with federal and state agencies and RDS must classify you as a non-resident (you will be ineligible for any state grant)
How do I use RDS?
1. You can access RDS in two ways:
- On the RDS homepage of www.NCresidency.org select “Complete Residency Determination”
- From CFNC.org (you must be logged in) select the “Residency” button in the CFNC Applications Hub
2. Use your CFNC login to access RDS; if you do not have a CFNC login, create a new account at ncresidency.org and login. This account login will be the same as a CFNC login. There is no separate login for RDS.
3. Start the RDS Interview (select “Complete Residency Determination” button):
- Answer the questions
- You may start, stop, and come back to the online interview as needed
- You have 25 days after starting to finish the interview; incomplete interviews are canceled and you must start again
