The Prezell R. Robinson Library kicked off its annual National Library Week April 10 through April 15. The library staff’s theme for this year was Libraries Transform.

“As the minds of the students begin to transform academically so do they!” said Tiwanna Nevels, director of Library Services. “It’s all about the academic success of each and every student. The role of the library will be to continually assess the way we provide services and resources to meet the student’s needs.”

Nevels continued by sharing how the Falcon community supported each and every activity.

“What an amazing week had by all,” said Tiwanna Nevels, director of Library Services.  “To kick off the week, students began showing their appreciation for libraries by filling out transform cards expressing what the library means to them. The library shared those cards and pictures of students on social media. We were happy to have our alumni participated as well.”

Students, faculty, staff and alumni also participated in Drop Everything and Read (D.E.A.R). “This program was a promotion to foster a love of reading each and every day,” shared Nevels.

In another highlight of the week, on Wednesday, April 13, individuals had an opportunity to show their appreciation for their favorite librarian(s). Students, faculty and staff stopped by Prezell R. Robinson Library to visit with the library staff and to enjoy some refreshments.

Friday, April 15 was the closing of National Library Week with a special guest, Marcus D. Wiley. He is best known from his alter ego as Bishop Secular on the Yolanda Adams Morning Show. In addition to a radio personality, he is also an author, comedian and DJ.

“He was an amazing speaker,” said Tiwanna Nevels, director of Library Services.  “He captivated the students with his life story with a few jokes sprinkle in between.”
