Marley Parker (So./Langley, British Columbia) fired a second consecutive no-hitter as Saint Augustine's University upended Shaw University 8-0 in both games of a CIAA softball doubleheader at Worthdale Park on April 16. The Lady Falcons have won eight in a row and nine of the last 10 contests against their crosstown rival under Head Coach Nikki Bynum Bumpass.
The victories moved the Lady Falcons into a second-place tie in the Southern Division at 4-2 with four conference games remaining in the regular season. The top eight teams – four in the Northern Division and Southern Division – qualify for the CIAA Softball Championship Tournament, which will be held April 28-30 at Walnut Creek Softball Complex in Raleigh, N.C.
The Lady Falcons, who began the day fifth in the division, took charge from the outset. Well rested after a six-day break, they were sharp against the Lady Bears.
In the first game, Parker stymied the Lady Bears for the pitching victory. She kept their bats quiet by striking out six and walking two in five innings. The contest was stopped in the fifth inning due to the eight-run mercy rule.
Parker also hurled a no-hitter in a 17-0 win over Livingstone College on April 10. She has recorded 26 strikeouts in her last three starts.
Parker also contributed at the plate against Shaw, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored in the first game. She ranks second in the CIAA in batting average (.485).
Meranda Zanni (Jr./Phoenix, OR) and Mikayla Pettyjohn (Fr./Jamestown, NC) led the Lady Falcons with two RBIs. Tyanna Petersen (Jr./Brooklyn Park, MN) was 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored.
